User data

User data is all data that relates to a person, e.g. name, e-mail address or login information.

What does user data mean in detail?

This includes both obvious data such as contact details and sensitive information such as passwords or user behavior. This data is particularly worth protecting as it can be misused.

Where do I come across this issue in my day-to-day work?

  • When handling customer data
  • When processing employee data
  • When using software or online services

Practical example:

An employee exports a list of customer data for an evaluation. She only saves it in the designated system and does not send it unencrypted by email.

What can I do to improve my safety?

  1. Process user data only when required
  2. Do not pass on sensitive data unprotected
  3. Ensure secure storage locations and transmission paths

Note: User data must be protected with particular care.
