Perseus, a leading provider of cybersecurity solutions, and the SIGNAL IDUNA Group are intensifying their cooperation. Both companies can look back on a long-standing and successful cooperation. Since 2018, SIGNAL IDUNA has been expanding its cyber policies with Perseus’ prevention solutions and 24/7 emergency assistance.

With SIGNAL IDUNA’s entry as a strategic investor in Perseus, both sides are setting the course for an even closer partnership. The aim is to exploit synergies and jointly develop innovative solutions to protect companies from digital risks.

The IT security situation in Germany will remain tense in 2025. The ongoing digital transformation and the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) are creating a dynamic market environment that presents companies with new challenges. The number of cyberattacks on German companies remains high. Small and medium-sized enterprises and craft businesses are also increasingly affected by cyberattacks.

Against this backdrop, close collaboration between insurers and specialized cybersecurity providers is becoming increasingly important. SIGNAL IDUNA is one of the most traditional and successful insurance companies in Germany – with a clear focus on risk coverage for craft businesses as well as for small and medium-sized enterprises. The intensified partnership now makes it possible to use the individual strengths of both partners to make cyber risks manageable, especially for German SMEs.

Fabian Schneider, CEO of SIGNAL IDUNA, says: “As one of the leading providers of cyber insurance for medium-sized companies, we know that effective prevention has the highest priority when it comes to fending off cyber attacks. As SIGNAL IDUNA, we have been working successfully with Perseus for many years, whose prevention and solution offerings for companies complement our insurance coverage. Our commitment is therefore a logical step towards positioning ourselves as a holistic solution provider for cyber risks.”

Gerrit Knichwitz, Managing Director of Perseus Technologies, agrees: “Making cyber risk manageable for SMEs requires a holistic approach. These include prevention, claims management and financial protection of the residual risk. We have been following this path with SIGNAL IDUNA for years and work together very successfully. This now even closer, strategic partnership makes it possible to follow the path more consistently and set new standards in IT security for SMEs.”

Sören Brokamp, Managing Director of Perseus, adds: “With Perseus, we aim to create solutions in the field of cybersecurity and IT security that have clear added value for our customers, but also for the customers of our insurance partners. In doing so, we rely on a close and trusting exchange with our partners. We are pleased that we can expand this strategic partnership with SIGNAL IDUNA and thus further develop security solutions in a more targeted manner, scale them and make the cyber market more secure.”

Ulrich Wallin says on behalf of the shareholders HDI and Markel: “Perseus has undergone a remarkable development in recent years and sustainably consolidated its position in the market. This underlines the strength of the business model and the high level of commitment of the team. The intensified partnership with SIGNAL IDUNA offers excellent conditions for further expanding growth in Germany and Europe and opening up new opportunities for the future.”

The cybersecurity company Perseus is facing a change in management: Gerrit Knichwitz is leaving the company at the end of the year and handing over his position as Managing Director to Sören Brokamp. Together with Peter Hasenstab, Chief Technology Officer, and Robert Wilken, Chief Operating Officer, Sören Brokamp will continue to shape Perseus’ successful path from October.

Perseus thanks Gerrit Knichwitz for the very successful cooperation. Under his leadership, the company was able to further expand its position as a leading provider of cybersecurity solutions for the insurance industry and its SME customers. Sören Brokamp, an experienced cybersecurity expert with many years of management experience in the cyber insurance industry, will consistently continue on this path and provide new impetus in this dynamic market environment.

Gerrit Knichwitz explains: “I look back with pride on the past 3.5 years. Perseus is now the market leader in the insurance sector with its cybersecurity solutions in the areas of prevention, risk assessment and emergency management, which complement the cyber policies of numerous large German insurance companies. I am very proud of the entire Perseus team. This year, for the first time in the company’s history, we took the step towards operating profitability. For me, now is the right time to hand over the helm to give fresh space to new approaches. We have found the ideal successor in Sören Brokamp – he combines a passion for cybersecurity with extensive experience in the insurance industry.”

Sören Brokamp says about his start at Perseus: “I am very much looking forward to the new challenge. I have known Perseus for many years through our close partnership with HDI Germany in the field of cyber insurance. It is exciting to now change our perspective, to actively participate in the further development of innovative IT security solutions and to help shape their future.”

Investors in cybersecurity company Perseus also share this assessment. Ulrich Wallin, on behalf of the shareholders HDI and Markel, adds: “We are very satisfied with the development of Perseus. The products will be sustainably developed to make the cybersecurity landscape more secure for small and medium-sized businesses. We thank Gerrit Knichwitz for his work and tireless commitment and wish him all the best for his professional and private future. With Sören Brokamp, we have found a more than adequate successor with whom Perseus will continue to successfully expand its market position in the future.”

Leading cybersecurity company Perseus and specialty insurer Markel are intensifying their collaboration. The two companies have been cooperating successfully with each other since 2019. Markel is now joining as a minority shareholder in order to strategically expand the successful cooperation. Both partners aim to bundle and further develop their services more closely in order to create the best possible cyber risk protection for companies and their employees.

The market for cyber insurance remains challenging. In view of new threat scenarios every day, an ever-increasing number of attacks and ever-increasing amounts of damage, it is essential to find solutions that sustainably reduce and cover these dynamic risks and ensure long-term insurability. As an established partner of German cyber insurance companies, Perseus has set itself the goal of making cyber risks manageable. With Markel as a strategic partner, this mission is to be expanded.

Markel is an established global insurer that has been active for over 90 years as a specialty insurer with a clear focus on commercial liability, including cyber insurance. Since 2016, the insurer has been offering cyber risk cover, primarily for small and medium-sized enterprises in Germany. Since 2019, Perseus’ solutions have complemented Markel’s cyber insurance. The entry as an investor now makes it possible to actively shape Perseus’ services and thus be able to adapt them even more optimally to the requirements of customers.

Frederik Wulff, Head of Europe at Markel, says: “The many years of good cooperation have shown that together we can sustainably reduce the threat posed by cyber damage. We are happy to now be able to walk this path even more closely together.”

Gerrit Knichwitz, Managing Director of Perseus Technologies, adds: “Perseus’ product range aims to provide companies with the best possible preventive protection against digital dangers and to minimise possible damage and its negative effects. Together with the largest German cyber insurers, we develop innovative solutions. In this way, we ensure that our services offer partners and customers real added value. We are now looking forward to working even more closely with the Markel team, further developing the joint products and expanding the cooperation.”

In addition to Markel, the insurance company HDI is already one of Perseus’ investors. Ulrich Wallin, Managing Director at Hannover Digital Investments GmbH, looks at the development with satisfaction: “The acquisition of further investors is a good sign that the business model works. Now the next step is to further expand the offer in Germany and expand it to other countries. The experience and insights of insurance companies operating in other European markets are an important building block in this. Markel is the right partner for this step, both personally and professionally.”
